Wednesday Spread: Ukrainian Tarot, Hearth and Path
This week, I pulled a five-card spread with the Ukrainian Tarot, exploring themes of vitality, resilience, destiny, reflection, and celebration. Each card is rooted in folklore, history, and the natural world, creating a narrative that moves from the spark of life to the joy of shared community.
1. The Seed π± — 6 of Fire (Viburnum Berries) π₯
What is beginning in your life right now?
Clusters of bright red berries hang close in the foreground, spilling into the blurred forest behind. These are viburnum berries, symbols of life, blood, and immortality. Folklore tells of a murdered lover whose tree grows from her grave, and a flute carved from the wood calls out her killer. Life, death, and memory intertwine here - a reminder that actions and intentions carry forward beyond the immediate.
The 6 of Fire as The Seed reminds us that beginnings are full of potential, resonance, and the courage to step into unknown but fertile ground.
2. The Root πΎ — Tower (Khotyn Fortress) π°
What gives you strength, stability, or grounding?
A formidable fortress rises along a river, scarred by centuries of siege and attack. Khotyn has fallen and been rebuilt countless times, yet it still stands - a testament to resilience and endurance. Unlike some Towers that emphasise sudden collapse, this one whispers: sometimes things fall despite all your efforts, and that’s not your fault. Survival and the ability to rebuild are true marks of strength.
As The Root, Khotyn anchors the reading: your strength lies not only in what you build, but in your capacity to endure and rebuild when life tests you.
3. The Challenge π₯ — 8 of Water (Snake in the Bones) ππ
What tension or obstacle is asking to be met?
A snake slithers through a still body of water, patient and quiet. Folklore tells of a man who tried to avoid his foretold death by releasing his horse, only to be killed later by a snake dwelling in the horse’s grave. This card reminds us that letting go of attachments doesn’t always change destiny, and sometimes events unfold beyond our control. Awareness and acceptance become the tools of navigating life’s currents.
As The Challenge, the 8 of Water invites reflection on fate, attachment, and the subtle currents that influence outcomes.
4. The Action π¦ — 6 of Water (Willow by the River) πΏπ§
What energy, initiative, or step can you take?
A willow leans gracefully over the water, catching a ray of sunlight. In Ukrainian tradition, willow branches are a symbol of remembrance, honouring the past like the palms that welcomed Jesus into Jerusalem. This card invites reflection on memory, connection, and honouring what came before.
In the Action position, the 6 of Water suggests pausing to integrate lessons, honour continuity, and nurture insight - moving with awareness rather than force.
5. The Gift ✨ — 2 of Fire (Circle Dance) π₯π
What will be the reward or insight if you follow the path?
Figures in traditional costumes move in a tight, joyful circle, rhythm and energy almost tangible. This card celebrates community, collaboration, and shared joy, rooted in tradition. Following the themes of vitality, resilience, fate, and reflection, the 2 of Fire invites us to move together, celebrate life, and honour the shared rhythms that carry us forward.
As The Gift, it shows that the culmination of this journey is connection, celebration, and the joy that comes from sharing life’s dance with others.
πΏ Reflection
This spread traces a journey from the spark of life and vitality (6 of Fire) through resilience and grounding (Tower), acceptance of fate (8 of Water), reflection and nurturing action (6 of Water), to celebration and shared community (2 of Fire).
The Hearth & Path spread highlights how the Ukrainian Tarot blends folklore, historical resonance, and visual storytelling. Even amid challenge or uncertainty, there is a rhythm to follow, roots to honour, and joy to share. Step forward with awareness, stand steadfast when tested, and let the shared energy of your community carry you. πΏ✨

Wednesday spread: Ukrainian Tarot, Interview spread
Happy Wednesday, all! Welcome to the weekly spread. This week I'm working with the Ukrainian Tarot from redFeather, a deck rooted in Slavic folklore and myth. My daily pulls have been really interesting so far and I'm looking forward to learning a bit more about the deck with this spread!

Ukrainian Tarot - Overview
Based on Slavic folklore, brightly coloured, and with elemental suits rather than the usual Swords, Cups etc. This is going to be a fun deck to explore!

Ukrainian Tarot - First Impressions
A deck rooted in a specific culture is always going to be fascinating. The Ukrainian Tarot from redFeather/Schiffer is the first folklore deck I've seen that concentrates on one culture - previous decks have been worldwide. I can't wait to see how this focus allows the deck to really spread its wings.
At a Glance
Publisher: redFeather / Schiffer
Art Style: Colours, detailed, some pastoral, some dramatic
Size: Standard tarot dimensions
Theme: Slavic folklore with an emphasis on the legend of the Magic Fern
First Impressions Guide: Yes, concise and elegant
First Impressions
The colours and brightness of this deck are amazing. I love the friendly, homely Hierophant, and the element-focused suits are intriguing. At first glance they don't seem to line up entirely with the RWS, and I'm excited to explore that and see where the differences are and where they're the same.
I’m curious about a few things as I dive in:
Will not knowing the Slavic folklore affect my readings?
How well do the elements match up with RWS?
Where there are differences, how will they affect a reading or spread?
The deck feels thoughtful, intentional, and elegant - like a whisper rather than a shout.
First Draw
Closing Thoughts
One card in, seventy-seven to go - and I’m already intrigued. The Ukrainian Tarot feels like a deck for reflection, clarity, and intention. I’m excited to explore this folklore driven deck and see if I can pick up some interesting new stories.
I’ll be back soon with more impressions - and likely a few surprises along the way.

Lieselle's Eternal Tarot - First Impressions
There’s something quietly compelling about a deck that exists entirely in black and white. The Lieselle’s Eternal Tarot landed on my desk this week, a pip-and-mantra deck from redFeather/Schiffer. At first glance, it feels minimalist - no colours to distract, no frills - yet it’s packed with detail, personality, and intention.
At a Glance
Publisher: redFeather / Schiffer
Art Style: Black & white, detailed, pip deck
Size: Standard tarot dimensions
Theme: Classic tarot with mantras for the Minors
First Impressions Guide: Yes, concise and elegant
First Impressions
The Majors are beautifully intricate; each image draws you in despite the monochrome palette. The court cards are a delight - each wears a distinctive hat to mark its identity, a small but charming touch that instantly helps distinguish the personalities at a glance.
I’m curious about a few things as I dive in:
-
How will reading in black and white shift the experience?
-
Will the mantras in the Minors align with my intuitive understanding of the cards?
-
Are the pip cards easier or trickier to read without colour cues?
The deck feels thoughtful, intentional, and elegant - like a whisper rather than a shout.
First Draw
My very first card from the deck is the King of Wands, “Creative Leadership.” Even in black and white, the figure radiates energy and authority. The mantra adds another layer, nudging me toward the qualities of vision, initiative, and inspiring others. It’s immediately clear that this deck wants to communicate directly, not rely on ornamentation or flashy imagery.
Closing Thoughts
One card in, seventy-seven to go - and I’m already intrigued. The Lieselle’s Eternal Tarot feels like a deck for reflection, clarity, and intention. I’m excited to explore how the monochrome aesthetic, detailed Majors, and mantra-driven Minors shape the readings to come.
I’ll be back soon with more impressions - and likely a few surprises along the way.

You can see the unboxing video on TikTok or Youtube and the complete flickthrough on TikTok or Youtube. I also posted two spreads, an interview spread and the River of Story spread.
