Wednesday Spread: Interview spread, Before Tarot

Happy Wednesday, all! Welcome to the Wednesday Spread. This week we're interviewing the Before Tarot. The Before Tarot is a deck that shows us what was happening a few moments before the scene we're familiar with from the RWS deck; it shines new light on a lot of the scenes and alters the meaning in subtle ways. Paired with the After Tarot, which shows us the moments after, it can be a really powerful tool for introspection.

To highlight the differences, I’ve included the original RWS versions alongside the Before Tarot cards—so you can see exactly what’s changed, and how those changes affect the mood or meaning.

Let's start the interview and see what this deck wants to tell us!

Tell me about yourself: Five of Swords

You never stop fighting, even when it might be best to! You haven't been defeated yet and will keep going until you drop.

What are your strengths as a deck? The Empress

You care very much for your children and will go to any lengths to protect them. Keeping them safe and happy is your main goal in life.

What are your limits? The Fool

You have a tendency to act without thinking things through all the way. I should keep that in mind as we work together; your suggestions may need to be tempered a bit.

What are you here to teach me? Two of Wands

That planning is all very well, but at some point there needs to be action - it's easy to be frozen in indecision, but nothing will ever happen there. "Take a step, step again."

How can I best learn and collaborate with you? Nine of Pentacles

By trusting in myself. The woman depicted in this card has worked hard to create her own comfort; now she can enjoy it. If I work hard and trust us, we can enjoy a good relationship as well.

What is the potential outcome of our relationship? Knight of Swords

Action and adventure! Things will never be boring when we're working together. You're always looking for the next adventure, and we'll enjoy working through them together.

Two Swords, two Majors, a Pentacle and a Wand - but no Cups! You may not be the best at emotional reads. Those two Swords combined with the Fool make me think that I'll need to be careful with your readings, as they may urge action without thinking through the consequences.
